More Than Just a Habit: Hair Pulling, Skin Picking, Nail Biting, and Other Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs) In-Person
Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs) are repetitive self-grooming behaviors, such as trichotillomania (hair pulling) and excoriation disorder (skin-picking), that often co-occur with anxiety disorders, OCD and related disorders, and ADHD. Although BFRBs are common, affecting as many as 1 in 20 individuals, accessing accurate information and evidence-based treatment resources can be challenging. This workshop will provide an overview of BFRBs, including the phenomenology, self-reinforcing nature of the disorders, current trends in evidence-based treatment, and resources for the healthcare community and for those living with these disorders.
