Crash Course on Media Literacy Skills

Crash Course on Media Literacy Skills In-Person

With more information available online than ever before, it can be challenging to distinguish between what is useful and what is misleading. Join Olga Polites of Media Literacy Now for an engaging session on how information is created, shared, and monetized. Learn essential skills to critically evaluate online media and engage with it responsibly and effectively.

Bio: From 1982 through 2022, I taught high school English, and from 1999 to 2023 I taught college composition at Rowan University.  My interest in media literacy education began as a search for better ways to prepare students to navigate our complex media world and become more civically minded citizens. In 2022, I advocated for an information literacy bill for all K-12 students, which was signed into law by Governor Murphy in 2023. Currently I work with Media Literacy Now and the Alliance for Decision Education, applying my classroom experiences to new and innovative ideas.
